1) Porthmeor, Cornwall

St Ives is a small fishing village famed for its beautiful harbour, winding streets and bustling arts scene. Its peninsula location affords visitors a variety of beaches to choose from, including the popular Porthmeor Beach. Porthmeor is overlooked by the Tate Gallery and features a long stretch of golden sand, ideal for relaxing on a hot summers day. It is great spot for water sports including surfing and body boarding and boasts a delicious beachside café.

2) Woolacombe, North Devon

Woolacombe Beach is considered one of the top ten beaches in the UK as voted by TripAdvisor’s Travellers Choice Awards. The 3 mile stretch of sand is popular with families and has a number of great facilities, including nearby shops, toilets and deckchair and surfboard hire. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months providing added peace of mind for parents. The rocky outcrops are great for rock pooling when the tide goes out!

3) Budleigh Salterton, Devon

Budleigh Salterton is a pebble beach, flanked by striking red sandstone cliffs. The crystal clear waters are excellent for bathing when the sea is calm and the beach is dog friendly throughout the year. The River Otter meets the sea at the eastern end of the beach, creating an estuary where you may be lucky enough to spot and abundance of bird and wildlife.

4) Sandbanks Beach, Dorset

 

Sandbanks Beach has won the Blue Flag award for cleanliness more times than any other beach in the UK. This famed stretch of land is renowned around the world for the luxurious houses that line its shores. There are a number of activities on the beach front, including mini golf and a land train.

5) Poppit Sands, West Wales

Poppit Sands is a picturesque beach located at the mouth of the River Teifi. It is lined with beautiful sand dunes, which are home to rare orchid species. This stretch of coastline is popular amongst wildlife lovers and it is sometimes possible to spot dolphins and seals. The beach is very family friendly with rockpools and a summer lifeguard service.

6) Barmouth Beach, North Wales

Barmouth Beach is situated within the Snowdonia National Park and a favourite amongst water sports lovers. The sandy beach is seldom busy, even in the height of the season, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the wonderful views of Cardigan Bay. Traditional seaside entertainment can be enjoyed next to the beach with a range of donkey rides, swing boats and a land train on offer.

7) West Wittering Beach, Chichester

West Wittering Beach lays within an Area of Outstanding beauty with views over Chichester Harbour. Beautiful white sand lines the shore with ample room to spread out and play. The lifeguard service patrols the shoreline during peak season. At low water a number of shallow lagoons form on the sands, creating the ideal spot for children to paddle.

8) Wells Next The Sea Beach, Norfolk

A row of colourful huts on stilts line the beach at Wells Beach, creating a quirky backdrop, ideal for snapping a quick Instagram photo. Wildlife is plentiful on this stretch of sand, with birds making their nests in the pine trees and sand dunes. At certain times of year it is not uncommon to see seals basking on the shores.

9) Brighouse Bay, Scotland

Brighouse Bay is a horseshoe shaped sandy beach, with wonderful views of the Scottish countryside. A number of rockpools are exposed at low water, providing excellent crab fishing opportunities. Brighouse Bay is lovely in the warmth of summer, but also a favourite spot to enjoy a bracing walk on a cold winters day.

10) Fishermans Haven Beach, Northumberland

 

Fishermans Haven Beach is set within a secluded cove, sheltered on all sides by the looming cliffs. Is a short walk from Berwick-On-Tweed with plenty of parking nearby. This scenic spot is dog friendly year-round, perfect for letting your four legged friend burn off some steam.

11) Monifieth Beach, Northumberland

Monifieth Beach has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the large number of wading birds that reside here. The beach itself boasts a long stretch of sand, with wooden sea defences that are exposed at low water. Visitors can enjoy far reaching views towards the Fife coast.
