Avoid The Crowds – Tips For Peaceful Holidays This Spring And Summer
While we can’t promise complete solitude, there are ways to avoid the crowds this spring and summer when you venture out on holiday. Often you’ll have dutifully selected your holiday accommodation, carefully curated an itinerary and hope that you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy your break. You may well just be looking for quieter towns, more peaceful landscapes and you might want to just hear the birdsong while walking in the idyllic countryside. Having the benefit of over 40 luxury holiday parks in our Group offering the best camping and touring parks in England, Scotland and Wales, we think we’re perfectly placed to offer some suggestions of how to enjoy your holiday, particularly if you are booking around the peak periods.
1. Try Somewhere Off The Beaten Path – Quite Beaches?
It goes without saying that venturing to Cornwall during August for example, will not provide you with the peace and quiet you might be looking for. While our parks in the South West are perfect for a summer adventure, you might be cautious of busy seaside towns and beaches. So, how about trying somewhere new like Dumfries and Galloway? This is Powillimount Beach, a peaceful bay on the west coast of Scotland.
There are so many spots like this to explore across England, Scotland and Wales. Locals and holidaymakers that have visited before will know the delights of local beauty spots, but some of us need that little bit of extra help to seek out these tranquil and quieter areas. Our holiday park owners are all very familiar with the quieter spots around their locations, so be sure to ask for that local knowledge when you arrive. If you’re a nature lover, your park hosts will also be able to guide and advise on the natural wonders locally too. This image was also taken in Dumfries and Galloway!
By considering ‘off the beaten track’ options, it widens our experiences, and by heading in the opposite direction to others means we might just have a slightly better experience that we expected!
2. Consider A City Break
You may be considering a city break and you can still achieve that while camping, glamping and touring! You can then retreat to the idyllic countryside at the end of your day. We don’t often consider staying near cities for our summer holidays, but cities during the summer can sometimes be quieter than you’d realise. If you stay at one of our parks near London for example (Swiss Farm or Tanner Farm), you could spend the day wandering the side streets to really take in the architecture, small cafes and independent shops. Notting Hill is a perfect example of somewhere you can wander around for much of the day and then return to the comfort of your holiday accommodation later. So, the best of both worlds.
Or, perhaps you would like to visit Edinburgh. Ord House is about an hour away, so an easy trip to the city and you can retreat back at the end of the day. You can plan your day trip from the peaceful surroundings of the park, and then venture out early and be home by the evening.
3. Consider Slightly Amending Your Dates
By amending your dates slightly, you may find your fellow visitors are lower in numbers that you might have expected. Cornwall typically continues to experience great weather in the first couple of weeks of September. By holidaying in the second week, when most children have returned to school, the towns will be quieter, the beaches less crowded but the temperatures will still be great for a holiday.
4. Check Pitch Numbers At Your Chosen Park
We are fortunate to have a range of holiday parks in the Best of British Holiday Parks Group, some of which are large, and others are small, with fewer pitch numbers. This means the park will likely be quieter and more tranquil. Many parks also offer hedging between pitches – so you may find there are enhanced privacy options, as well as good pitch sizes. Check each park’s details on our website, as most display the number of pitches available. Trethem Mill in Cornwall has 66 pitches, with space for 8 tents. You can see that the park has privacy options that will ensure your stay is comfortable and your accommodation as secluded as possible. Note that while Trethem Mill is an adults only park, there are many options for families if you are looking for smaller caravan and camping sites.
5. Young Adults? Consider Adult Only Holiday Parks!
You may be venturing out on your own, camping, glamping or touring for the first time. If you’re a younger adult, you may not have thought about adult only holiday parks yet… and if not, we’d like to introduce you! We have a wonderful selection of adult only sites, which cater less toward families and children. It doesn’t mean they are silent parks, but it does mean you won’t have excitable children, play areas or large family groups to navigate.
13 of our 5 star graded parks are adult only, with a variety of fantastic facilities from on site bars, games areas, visiting gourmet food trucks etc. Your hosts will point you in the direction of local pubs, restaurants, tourist attractions and quaint towns and villages, as well as highlighting when they are quieter. Use local knowledge to make your holiday perfect!
6. Choose Peaceful Glamping Options
Glamping bridges the gap between sleeping under canvas and staying in touring accommodation. There are so many options to consider. And, if you choose a location that is set in a quiet spot, you could experience a peaceful break even when the park, and local area, are busy.
The lodges at Clippesby Hall in Norfolk are great examples of perfect accommodation, ideally situated for peace and quiet!
Wherever you head this spring and summer, consider holidaying at a Best of British holiday park, where you will be assured of great accommodation options, alongside fantastic facilities and a warm welcome.
