As we keep discovering, there are so many beautiful locations in which to holiday in Great Britain. We are making it our mission to introduce you to some beautiful counties that you may not have considered visiting. First up, let's go to Herefordshire!

On the Welsh border, nestled into the Malvern Hills and the Brecon Beacons, the county is picture perfect and ideal for a countryside getaway. From dramatic landscapes to the serene River Wye, Herefordshire has it all. Let's take a look at some hidden gems that might just give you a few ideas for your next staycation holiday!
1. Walking in Herefordshire
Whether you are walking for health, the desire to explore or you're a nature watcher, Herefordshire has everything you need. The stunning landscape is one of the country's best kept secrets… although it's certainly not a secret locally. There are 15 circular walks to partake in, suitable for all abilities. Whether you are keen to discover beautiful villages, castle ruins or explore the banks of the River Wye, there's something for everyone.
2. A Foodie Experience
You'll be spoilt for choice for pubs, restaurants and cafes in the county. With locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, Herefordshire is foodie heaven. There are two Michelin starred restaurants in the county, as well as a huge selection of well reviewed local establishments to seek out. We'd suggest The Hostelrie at Goodrich as a starting point, near the Forest of Dean and Ross on Wye – it's picture perfect.
3. Cider!
A county well known for cider, Herefordshire produces half the annual production for the whole country. 15,000 acres of orchards dot the landscape, so you're never far from the apples and pears! Whether you are chasing the beautiful blossom of the spring, or the final product itself, cider is big business here. You could go on one of the Visit Herefordshire 'Cider Circuits' if you're cycling, or you can drive (safely) between the orchards!
4. Eastnor Castle, Ledbury
Be at one with nature and heritage by visiting some historical spots in the county. Situated at the foot of the Malvern Hills, Eastnor Castle is surrounded by a deer park, arboretum and lake. It really is an idyllic day out, so be sure to take your camera with you! Whether you are visiting for the castle, the grounds or the fun filled activities for children, there is something for everyone here.
5. The Black and White Village Trail
The trail, as the name suggests, is characterised by beautiful timbered and half timbered houses in Herefordshire, some dating from medieval times, others more recent. You can go via car, cycle, or walk (if you're feeling particularly energetic!). It is a 40 mile circular trail that takes in ancient market towns and villages, beautiful vistas and stunning scenery. In each location, you'll find independent tea rooms, shops and craft workshops. There is also a selection of village pubs to try! This is an excellent idea for a tour of the county and truly 'off the beaten track'!
6. Mappa Mundi at Hereford Cathedral
Set within the Cathedral, venture toward the Mappa Mundi exhibition. This medieval map is constructed on a single sheet of vellum (calf skin). It is one of the world's unique medieval treasures and is believed to have been made around the year 1300. It shows the history, geography and destiny of humanity as it was understood in Christian Europe in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. One of the most well reviewed attractions in Hereford, we thought you may appreciate this cultural treat!
7. Symonds Yat Rock
Forestry England manage Symonds Yat Rock, a spot well known for its picturesque views, trails linking to the River Wye, a range of circular walks into the forest and bird watching. There are five walking trails or a cycle route if you prefer. Expect to see Peregrine Falcons, Goshawks, Sparrowhawks, Buzzards and Tawney Owls if you're prepared to stay a while!
8. Canoeing On The River Wye
If you long for peace and quiet, there's nothing better than a canoe trip on the River Wye. The scenery is stunning and makes for a truly idyllic escape. You could hire your equipment from Wye Canoes, one of the well reviewed services at Symonds Yat. They are able to offer a service that collects you from the end of your paddle to collect your car. And with views like this, it's well worth trying something different for a serene experience!
