We're enjoying introducing you to the owners and teams at Best of British Touring and Holiday parks, because the faces behind the scenes are more important now than ever before. Here we introduce you to Charlie at Fields End Water Caravan Park in Cambridgeshire. Charlie and the rest of the team have worked incredibly hard to create this multi-award winning park that guests return to year on year.

Fields End Water is a 5 star park caravan park surrounded by beautiful fenland countryside. It is an award winning (AA Campsite of the Year), adult onlydog friendly caravan park which is perfect for touring and camping. Or, if you're looking for luxurious self-catering accommodation you can hire a lodge which feature private hot tubs

There are two carp fishing lakes, and 'Waterside', the new lake opens in March 2021. Owner Charlie Boughton was kind enough to tell us more about the park.

1. Tell Us About Fields End Water…

Fields End Water was originally a one lake fishery run by my Mum for many years. Then my father put in the second lake for fishing matches but predominantly for irrigation for his crops, and a 5 van Caravan Club Certified Location. At this stage I returned from London to help with the family businesses. After a couple of very successful seasons, I applied for planning permission for a 33 pitch caravan park, and a rally field. The rally field soon turned into another 18 pitches and we built 3 luxury lodges in 2013 and another 3 in 2015.

The fishing apparently is excellent, and we have had guests returning year after year. We have recently built and just about to open another 20 pitches set around a third fishing lake, with a brand new toilet block, and four glamping pods. The excitement from our existing customers has been immense, as they will have their own fishing swim for the duration of their stay 2 metres from their caravan, so there's no carrying of heavy fishing gear twice a day.

Q: What is your aim with the park?

A: To give a professional and friendly service on an immaculately presented park, so our guests have the most relaxing stays, and wish to return time after time.

Q: What awards have you won?

A: We have received the David Bellamy Conservation Award, AA Campsite of the Year and Loo Of The Year! Once the new lake and pitches are up and running, we have our eye on the AA national award.

Q: What makes Fields End Water a 5 star experience?

A: We aim to give each customer a seamless experience from the first phone call or visit to our website, to the friendly goodbye on their departure. I am passionate about the park being maintained to an immaculate standard, which we are often complimented on. Being adult only and open all year round, we can virtually guarantee relaxation and peace and quiet, set in the beautiful surroundings of the fenland countryside.

Q: Tell Us About Your Team…

A: Clive and Carol have been working with us since 2017 – they started as seasonal summer wardens, who due to various reasons, have never left. They have worked hard and been very committed to Fields End Water, and have risen through the ranks  to Park Managers. They are in charge of the smooth day to day running of the site. There really isn’t much Clive can’t do, he's multi-talented, and Carol heads up the office and running of the shop, in a very efficient manner. They are a great team.

Then we have Colin and Sandra, who in the summer run the extremely popular café, with a lot of personality and some excellent feedback for their work. In the winter they help out with site work and general caretakers.

We also have Jason and Michelle starting in April, as the summer seasonal couple. They seem lovely and we look forward to working with them and getting to know them this summer.

Q: What measures did you put in place to make the site Covid-secure?

A: We have plenty of signs encouraging the following of government guidelines, one way systems to avoid close contact and reduced numbers in reception. We close the loos three times a day for cleaning and the lodges take an extra hour to clean each one. We were hugely appreciative of the work of the NHS and in line with the message to support the NHS back in April, our grounds team gave us a great display!

Q: What would suggest guests do in Cambridgeshire when not enjoying their fishing?!

A: There are lots of things to do outside the park, and one of our main suggestions would be to visit Ely and the cathedral, about 25 minutes away. This medieval cathedral, famous for its wooden-framed lantern tower, is a highlight of medieval architecture. There are a number of historic towns surrounding the park and various tourist attractions to visit. You can reach Cambridge in about 50 minutes if you wanted to immerse yourself in the history of our county.

Q: What are your hopes for the 2021 season?

A: We very much hope for a return to normality and the enjoyment of holidays at home. We're also very much looking forward to the opening of Waterside which we hope our visitors will enjoy as much as we think they will!
