Last year, after much discussion with sustainable energy groups on the island, The Orchards Holiday Park took the decision to change from an oil-fired boiler to a 140 kilowatt, Hack Biomass Boiler, (Austrian).
It was fitted by Clarke’s Mechanical, a trusted and very well established Isle Of Wight company. The boiler is housed in the basement of our Facilities Centre. It burns wood chip or wood pellets. They are stored in a wood chip store that feeds straight into the boiler and there is flu from the top.
This fuel is grown and harvested on the island and heats the under-floor heating in our Facilities Centre and also our indoor swimming pool.
The Orchards Holiday Park is delighted to be making another contribution to local sustainable energy (solar panels were installed onto the Facilities Centre roof in 2009). We no longer use oil. It is on standby only.
The Orchards one of the Best of British holiday parks on the Isle of Wight.
