2018 is coming to an end, which means that it’s time to start looking towards the year ahead. We’ve drawn up a list of holiday park resolutions, which you can embrace during your stay on Best of British holiday parks in the New Year.

1. Plastic free camping

Challenge yourself to go plastic free on your next camping or caravanning trip and see how many small changes that you can make to reduce your impact on the environment. Why not pack refillable bottles and make use of the holiday parks' drinking water taps for the duration of your holiday? You may also want to try to avoid single use plastics by bringing reusable metal cutlery and paper straws on your camping trip.

2. Go green with renewable energy

There are numerous companies developing products that harness renewable energy for use in caravans and motorhomes. You can now have solar panels fitted to the roof of your touring vehicle, which provide ample hot water and electricity for a family to use during a trip away. A number of the parks within the Best of British group are investing heavily in technology that produces renewable energy in order to make the park self-serving.

3. Try a digital detox

Whilst the majority of our parks have excellent Wi-Fi provisions, take the plunge and try a digital detox during your holiday park stay! Leave the screens at home, pack a book, board game and outdoor activities and spend some quality time together as a family. After a break from the pressures of social media and constant connectivity you’ll feel truly refreshed and fully charged.

4. Walk 10,000 steps

We know that holidays are for relaxing, but escape the comforts of your holiday home and head out into the great outdoors and see whether you can complete 10,000 steps in one day. Our holiday parks are situated in some of the best destinations around the country, so you’re sure to be rewarded with a spectacular view!

5. Eat local produce

Reduce your food miles in 2019 and try to eat local for the duration of your stay. Sample sustainably sourced produce from a quint café in a town or visit a nearby farm to collect locally grown ingredients for your home cooked meal. Even better, why not try catching your own dinner and try a spot of fishing if staying in a holiday park by the coast. Don’t forget to sample a beer from a local brewery too!

6. Use public transport

Challenge your family to use only public transport whilst on holiday this year. Leave the car on the site and walk, cycle or even scooter to the nearest town or beach. Not only will you reduce your carbon footprint, but you’re bound to save yourself a small fortune on parking too! Many of our holiday parks are located within easy reach of public transport hubs, so you may not have to bring your car at all!

7. Recycle

We’re all used to recycling at home but do you recycle whilst on holiday? Make it your mission to make as little landfill waste as possible and see how much you can recycle. On arrival be sure to scout out the parks' recycling facilities and ask at reception whether there are any other initiatives that you can take part in during your stay. Some of our parks have won special awards within that recognise their efforts towards improving sustainability.
