But now, thirty years on, the Highlands End Bar and Restaurant has firmly established itself on the local scene as a favourite among West Dorset residents and visitors alike.
The well-appointed surroundings and friendly atmosphere are still there, as is the delicious menu of first-class meals and snacks. However, the bar has also gained a reputation throughout the region as a venue for parties, functions and business conferences.
So how has Highlands End decided to mark three delightful decades of drinking and dining? Firstly by promising more of the same and secondly by re-christening the Bar with a new name. And by a popular vote among staff and the members of the family-owned business, it will from henceforth be known as “Martin's”
Martin is a well-known figure locally, and has for years given up his time to help on voluntary work to promote Dorset as a visitor destination. Some may not realise, though, that he also served for many years as a retained Firefighter with the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service.
There's no doubt that the Bar and Restaurant has won many local fans over the years, and its popularity continues to grow. Renowned as one of the best holiday parks in Dorset, couples as well as groups of friends or family now make it their first choice for somewhere to relax, and enjoy a truly memorable meal.
