The AA have announced the winners of their illustrious Caravan and Camping Awards for 2018 and we are extremely excited to announce that three of the winning holiday parks are a part of the Best of British group!

Our very own Old Oaks Touring Park in Somerset once again scooped the prestigious AA Campsite of the Year 2018 and Overall Winner award and was described as ‘absolutely stunning’ by the appointed AA inspector.

So what does it take to become the AA Campsite of the Year 2018 England & Overall winner? According to AA it is primarily due to Old Oaks hands-on owners James and Tara White, who have developed the park to exceptional levels this year thanks to their continued investment and innovative thinking.

Old Oaks have embraced the glamping trend and really brought the term to life with their new mini-lodges, situated on carefully landscaped areas with breathtaking views of the Mendip Hills. They have been fully furnished and equipped to an incredibly high standard with a space for outside living and relaxation with the inclusion of a fire pit to make memories around. On top of this, two hot tubs have been added- one to a newly built shepard’s hut and another to one of the mini-lodges.

In addition to glamping, Old Oaks excels in offering impeccably maintained grounds, extremely spacious and level pitches of which make the absolute most out of the surrounding views and countryside. It is the overall attention to detail and consistent quality that makes Old Oaks Touring Park a multi-time winner of the AA Campsite of the Year Award.

Best of British is also pleased to announce that two of our other parks were able to pick up awards under the Regional category.

And the winner is ….. Trevalgan Touring Park, Cornwall

Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, two miles from St Ives town centre -Trevalgan has received serious investment from hands-on owners over the past few years. It really shows with their spacious pitches, luxury washroom facilities and large, safe children’s play area with a recently installed bespoke pirate ship for them to explore!

With views that allow visitors to look out to sea and luxury facilities such as underfloor heating in the washrooms, Trevalgan is a worthy winner of the South West Region.

Another BOB park winner…. Whitefield Forest Touring Park, Isle of Wight.

The park is known for its serene forest setting and is located just outside of the coastal town, Ryde. Whitefield Forest takes extreme care to ensure the natural beauty of the forest is kept well and as a result, it is a haven for wildlife including the elusive red squirrel!

The park is laid out exceptionally well and offers a wide variety of pitches, including 26 fully serviced pitches, as well as family rooms. The parks excel in practicality and atmosphere but also offers excellent, modern facilities that are kept spotlessly clean. A worthy regional winner indeed!

All winners will feature in the 50th Anniversary Edition of the AA Caravanning and Camping Guide. Each of the 800 sites included in the guide have been visited by one of the AA’s experienced Campsite Inspectors, grading sites from one to five Pennants, based on their facilities and hospitality. Only the parks of the very highest standard are awarded the coveted Gold Pennant award.
