Scottish Mining Museum
Dalkeith, MidlothianThe museum is Scotland’s national coal mining museum and features original buildings that have been recognised as one of the few locations in which formed an almost complete survival of a major Victorian colliery.
There are over 60,000 items to get up close and personal with: Tools, safety equipment, lamps, models, clothing, trophies, geological specimens, banners and art. To make the most of your visit, there are optional guided tours of the museum. Get to know the collection in detail and immerse yourself deep in history from the museums passionate and knowledgeable guides.
A “Café Coal” is available on the bottom floor of the museum. Great when you need to refuel with it’s hot and cold drinks, fresh food and kids’ options on the menu.
The museum is open 7 days per week. 10 am to 5 pm April – October and 10 am to 4 pm November to March.
