Launceston Steam Railway
Launceston, CornwallRunning for two and a half miles along the beautiful Kensey Valley, the Launceston Steam Railway links the historic Cornish town with the hamlet of Newmills. Passengers have a choice of open or closed carriages and whichever option you choose, you are guaranteed stunning views!
All of the trains are steam hauled by one of their three Victorian steam locomotives. Their youngest locomotive is 115 year old ‘Dorothea’ which has recently undergone a 20 year restoration, bringing the locomotive to life again from near scrap condition.
After the purchase of your ticket, you can ride as many times as you like meaning that you can hop on and off to explore a number of wonderful places. Newmills is a great stop allowing you to enjoy a riverside picnic and explore the neighbouring Farm Park.
Launceston Station itself has a Railway Cafè, a well-stocked gift shop and many exhibits in their free Transport and Engineering Museum. In addition, Launceston Town Centre, Castle and Museum are only a short walk uphill from the station and well worth a visit.
