Carisbrooke Castle
East Cowes, Isle Of WightExplore where King Charles I was imprisoned following the English Civil War. A challenge for visitors is to find the rooms from which he attempted to escape.
The castle grounds offer a variety of entertainment such as the Carisbrooke Museum which provides more historical information about the castle, as well as Charles I memorabilia.
The Princess Beatrice Garden, designed by TV gardener Chris Beardshaw is based on the original garden retreat of Queen Victoria’s daughter and is open for all visitors to enjoy. St Nicholas’ Chapel was built in 1904 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Charles I’s execution though there had been a chapel at the castle since medieval times.
