Best of British member, Hendra Holiday Park, is a 5 star family-run site based in Newquay, Cornwall. Throughout Covid-19, they have been fundraising for local mental health charity Cornwall Mind.
Cornwall Mind is a mental health organisation providing vital services to people in need across the county. They provide support, advice, various projects and community groups to improve mental wellbeing in those who need it most.
Hendra Holiday Park chose to support this charity as it is one close to their heart. During Covid-19 and multiple lockdowns, mental health services in the UK were increasingly overwhelmed. In 2020, 76% of adults experienced issues with their mental health. Cornwall Mind rely on funding from the community to provide vital wellbeing groups such as creative writing, community cafes and allotment projects.
Jon Hyatt, Managing Director of Hendra Holiday Park, said: ‘We selected Cornwall Mind as our chosen charity for the past two years as it is a cause close to our hearts at Hendra.’
Each year, Hendra Holiday Park host various fundraising events on their site to support their local community. Every Christmas, they donate £1000 and a selection of tinned food to their local food bank, and in 2021, they helped to raise £16,000 for local causes by playing host to Newquay beer festival – held in a marquee beside their indoor pool complex.
Hendra also select a local charity to support each year, and include an optional 50p charity donation to their bookings process, encouraging guests to join them in supporting their local community. Each donation from their guests is combined with other funds raised by the site throughout the season. Over the 2020/2021 period, Hendra chose Cornwall Mind as their selected charity.
Cornwall Mind’s CEO Paul Reeve said: “We are delighted that Cornwall Mind has been Hendra’s chosen charity for the last two years and deeply grateful that they have supported us through such a challenging time. The money they have raised will go towards our vital wellbeing service that works to keep people well and supported through activities such as Music, Art, Walking and Gardening as well as supporting our social cafes. Thank you to Hendra Holiday Park and especially to all their customers who gave so generously. Your kindness will make a huge difference.”
This year, Hendra have chosen Cancer Research UK as their selected charity. Each optional donation of 50p from each booking will go straight to the charity to fund life-saving research. The funds raised for Cancer Research UK will be donated specifically to research in the South West, including vital clinical trials being carried out in Cornwall.
