General knowledge buffs have helped Beverley Holidays raise £610 for Macmillan Cancer Support in a brain-teasing challenge hosted by the Paignton holiday park earlier this month.
Quiz goers flocked from far and wide to take part in Beverley’s Macmillan Mammoth Quiz – a nationwide charity challenge which holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest simultaneous quiz.
The charity event saw teams from Macmillan South West and Beverley Holidays go head to head with holiday park guests in 10 general knowledge rounds, with all proceeds from the brain-teasing challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Beverley Holidays’ Head Of Entertainment, Drew Baker, said: “A huge thank you to all those who came along to Beverley Holidays’ first-ever Mammoth Quiz and helped us crack a charity puzzle by raising stacks of cash for a very worthy cause.
“And a special mention goes to our winning team led by Ian Salter who scored a truly mammoth 92 out of 100 on the charity quiz, which the team at Macmillan believe may be the highest score ever achieved in the world’s largest simultaneous quiz.”
Now in its ninth year, the Mammoth Quiz saw a record number of entries in 2017 with Beverley Holidays being one of 449 who championed this year’s charity quiz which raises vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. It's hoped that other UK holiday parks will take part in the future.
Bridget Hill, Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for South Devon, said: “It was great to see the Beverley Holidays’ Mammoth Quiz being supported by so many local people.
“The £610 raised is enough to fund a Macmillan nurse at Torbay Hospital for over 21 hours, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential support. We are extremely grateful to everyone involved and already looking forward to next year’s event.”
The next nationwide Mammoth Quiz will take place on 23 February 2018 so watch this space for further news on Beverley Holidays’ next charity challenge.
