Practical Caravan Top 100 Parks 2007

From top-notch facilities to friendly staff, Brighouse Bay Holiday Park has something for everyone. Once pitched, you really don’t need to leave this site if you don’t want to and this is one of the reasons it is the regional winner for the second year running. With so many facilities on site you will find it difficult to take time to enjoy the remainder of the surrounding countryside. But it’s worthwhile venturing out at some point as this site is near the town of Kirkcudbright with its working harbour, ruined castle, charming town and artistic heritage.
Brighouse makes the perfect base thanks to its large touring area, which is divided into intimate groups of pitches separated by mature hedges and dry stone walls. For an extra special stay, book one of the few pitches right next to one of the fishing lakes or one of the many pitches located just a short walk from the site’s own slipway to the bay’s waters.
There is an extensive range of on-site sporting and leisure activities, all of which are well laid out and blend in beautifully with the surrounding countryside. Brighouse is a golfer’s paradise, complete with it’s own 18-hole golf course offering spectacular sea views. If golf is not your thing then take your pick from pony trekking, mountain biking or quad biking. Those seeking less energetic activities can walk the trails through the neighbouring woodlands, or try a spot of coarse fishing.
The site has a mini-market,
a large indoor swimming pool,
a family lounge and a bistro serving an excellent variety of food. These superb facilities and the fine location combine to make Brighouse a worthy regional winner for Scotland.

It would be quite possible to come to Brighouse Bay Holiday Park and never leave the site; there is so much to do here, and all of it is set amid stunning Scottish landscape.
The large touring area is divided into intimate groups of pitches by mature hedges and dry stone walls, with a few pitches right next to one of the fishing lakes. Each area has its own character and points of interest, and many pitches are just a short walk from the site’s own slipway to the bay’s waters.
An extensive range of
on-site sporting and leisure activities are well laid out
and blend unobtrusively with the surrounding countryside. Chief among these is an impressive 18-hole golf course, with its spectacular sea view; pony trekking is another favourite, along with mountain bike hire and quad bikes.
The large ‘leisure club’ boasts an indoor swimming pool,
a family lounge and a bistro serving good food (don’t miss the delicious Whitby scampi).
Those seeking less energetic activities can walk the trails that criss-cross the neighbouring woodlands, or try coarse fishing. A mini-market ensures that you won’t need to leave the park just to stock up on provisions. For those who want to explore the surrounding area, the fishing town of Kirkcudbright is only a few miles away. Brighouse Bay Holiday Park is a superb site, with something for everyone.

This campsite is perfect for active families with its wide range of on-site sporting and leisure pursuits. The site lies on a beautiful peninsula offering broad views over the Irish Sea, and is surrounded by 1200 acres of countryside which are perfect for walking.
Touring pitches are enclosed by hedges, trees and stone walls. There is a choice of grass or hardstanding pitches, all with hook-up. Because the site has limited TV reception due to its location, it has installed its own signal booster system, available on many of the campsite's pitches. Some pitches are fully serviced.
The two toilet facilities are spotless: one has family bathrooms, and separate ladies and gents toilets and showers, while the other block has unisex facilities. There will be two motorhome service points in 2006.
The site has excellent environmental credentials, with its indoor swimming pool's water supply heated by solar energy. The site has won awards in the Green Tourism business scheme and has a David Bellamy Gold Award.
Leisure activities are centred around the 'country club' that overlooks the 18-hole, championship length golf course and the open sea beyond. The club boasts an indoor swimming pool, bistro, family room and tastefully designed bar and function suite.
Pony trekking, mountain bike hire and quad bikes are just a few of the activities on offer.
A mini-market ensures there is little need to leave the park.

we have been to this site on a numerous of occations now both in a tent and now in a tourer and can not say anything bad about the site. Everytime we have had a fantastic time and so have the friends we have recommended it to. The only problem we have now is trying to find a site else where in the country with the same high standards as brighouse

Me, Him and the girls aged 15, 14 and 11 have just returned from our very first family 6 night stay (have prev done 1 or 2 nights but never a full week!) and can only say good things about this site. The pitches are all a great size, the site is very clean and well maintained. The shower/toilet blocks were a bit strange at first, being unisex, but that works so well for families. There are also sort of en-suite booths which are great for when the kids are younger and need some help. The shop is well stocked with every essential and not at all over priced.
The bay was just beautiful, very peaceful and tranquil but at the same time the kids were kept happy and even found a full grown crab in one of the rock pools.
We would highly reccomend this site for everybody, young and not so young alike.

Well we have been travelling around the counrty again and this time we went to Brighouse Bay. What a stroke of luck the area is second to none and the beech is worth the long drive from England. At LOW tide in the LOW season we were the only people on this idilic beach, in the high season I would think that the sand finds it difficult to find a gap for people( from the site). I don't know about the tides and currents but it is a sand based beech with a gentle slope, perfect for paddling. The site was clean and tidy although we were unable to find the motorhome grey water disposal site that we were directed to. Water for a self contained unit like mine was also a pain to locate as it was near to fixed caravans and so a long white hose was required. We found it welcoming/clean and peaceful (when we went). Well worth returning again, this time with my fishing line.

Having just returned , overall we had a very enjoyable holiday, the park itself was very good, and the kids enjoyed the freedom of been able to bike around etc, our only gripe was the toilet/shower blocks, the unisex cubicles are an excellent idea but those along with the Ladies & Gents needed cleaning more than once a day, the share volume of people using these facilities cleaning really does need to be made a priority here, as we feel they couldnt possibly be The Best of British Standard.

We have stayed at this park in the past few years.
the Toilet Facilities were of the Highest level I have seen during my touring and camping holdays.

There are a few childrens activities but I recommend that you take alternative toys etc.

The Club Hosue is great put in my opinion would keep the teenage years happy but not for children younger.
