Thanks to careful landscaping the site fits in perfectly with the peaceful atmosphere of rural Herefordshire. It is set in 33 acres of countryside, and has a small river running alongside it. As well as providing good fishing, the river is a lovely setting for walks and attracts local wildlife. Take any of the walking and cycle paths that leave from Poston Mill Park to explore the idyllic countryside.
Most of the site’s spacious pitches are hardstanding and all have electric hook-up. Fully serviced pitches are also available. The washblocks have recently been refurbished, so are of a high standard.
Children will love the play area, which has its own play tractor, and a pitch and putt course. The tennis court, putting area, croquet lawn, and badminton will appeal to everybody. The site also has a dedicated dog walking field.
A short walk gets you to the Mill Bar and Restaurant. Alternatively, the pubs, shops and bistro of nearby Peterchurch village are just a short drive away.
Herefordshire, itself, is renowned for the relaxed charm of its picturesque Black and White villages; you can follow the 40-mile village trail between Leominster and Kington.
The county’s busy city heart is Hereford, just a 20-minute drive from Poston Mill Park. The city has well-preserved Georgian buildings and a 12th-century cathedral that houses the Mappa Mundi, a unique 13th-century map of the world. There are good shops here, too.
The area also has grand old houses, ruined castles and good golf courses to discover. Or you
can hop across the border into Wales and enjoy a day walking among the green ridges and
valleys of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Poston Mill is ideally situated in Herefordshire between Hay-on-Wye and the county town of Hereford. The site is a mile from Peterchurch, the nearest village, where there is a local shop and two pubs.
There is plenty on site to keep you occupied, though, such as the dog walk and the acres of open countryside to explore. If you prefer some sport while on holiday you can play tennis, pétanque or golf. Or, you can just relax on your fully serviced pitch amid the birdsong and fresh air of rural Herefordshire.
The facilities are all top notch from the hot power-showers to the sparkling clean toilets. Also, we received a warm and hospitable welcome from the staff, as well as from the chef and bar staff at The Mill, the highly-recommended on-site pub. At The Mill, visitors from the campsite can choose between informal bar snacks and an à la carte menu, and receive a ten per cent discount.
An ice cream van tours the site every afternoon, weather permitting, so you can enjoy a ‘99’ from the comfort of your own pitch.
With excellent facilities and peaceful, pretty surroundings, Poston Mill was a delight.

Its villages feature the distinctive Tudor-style black and white half-timbering, and the views of the Brecon Beacons just over the border are utterly breathtaking. Little wonder, then, that it has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Poston Mill Park sits in the middle of this lovely landscape. The level riverside pitches have been carefully laid out and have a spacious feel, and all offer views across to wooded hillsides. Both the grass and hardstanding touring areas are well maintained, with easy access to the central amenity block. The children’s play area is safely situated away from the touring areas. Pitch and putt, boules and tennis courts will keep you busy during the day, and there’s also a field available for games and picnics.
Despite being managed by a separate team, the Mill Bar and Bistro is an integral part of the site. Under the experienced guidance of owners Caroline and Steve, the meals are prepared to a very high standard in a friendly family environment. The evening bar meals are delicious, and the Sunday lunch menu is an excellent way to round off your weekend.
Poston Mill is justified in calling itself one of Britain’s best parks in one of the UK’s prettiest areas. Literary border town Hay-on-Wye and charming Hereford are both within ten miles of the site, but city-types who can’t be parted from their mobile phones will suffer – reception is poor here.

Immersed in the unspoilt rural landscape of the English-Welsh border, with its Herefordshire cattle, apple orchards and fields of corn, Poston Mill wholeheartedly embraces the peace and quiet of its location. Tucked neatly into rolling farmland around the village of Peterchurch in the Golden Valley, the park is a member of the Best of British group.

It is lined with conifers and other mature trees, and has room for 82 tourers, all set on level grass, and some with magnificent views of the River Dore along the valley. All pitches have electricity, water and TV connections (leads for which can be hired at reception), with 35 also having waste and sewage outlets. The 33 acres also comfortably accommodate 80 holiday homes.

One sanitary block serves the touring pitches, with another smaller one near the holiday home area. They are fully equipped and include a unit for disabled people that has a toilet and basin. There is also a laundry room with a fridge and a freezer.

The site has a tennis court, a football pitch, games room, pitch-and-putt golf course and driving range, as well as boules and croquet. A play area is available for children. Running parallel with the Dore is the old Golden Valley railway, now a footpath which can be reached from the site. Upstream is Hay-on-Wye and its plethora of second-hand book shops. The valley is littered with castles left over from the days when Welsh raiders would use the area to harry and rob Norman estates.
