Tourist Attractions

Less than one and a half miles away is Caerhays Castle, famous for the many varieties of Camellias raised at the gardens. The Castle's beautiful gardens - open for several weeks during the Spring - are yours to enjoy.

St. Mawes, on the western edge of the Roseland Peninsula is famed for its clover leaf shape castle - built by Henry VIII in 1542. Enjoy the views out over the Carrick Roads - the estuary of the river Fal. St Mawes is a centre for coastal walks, sailing and other water sports. A regular passenger ferry service runs across to Falmouth. There are boat trips up the river Fal to enjoy and a small ferry service to Place House links St Mawes to the coast path around St Anthony Head

Only three and a half miles away, Mevagissey has a beautiful double harbour with superb views out along the coast. Look out for the Mevagissey Museum and Aquarium as you walk around the harbour. Mevagissey's picturesque streets and alleys are crowded with interesting shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Enjoy a fishing trip for mackerel - or even Sharks ! In summer, a passenger ferry can take you across St Austell Bay to the historic port Fowey - perhaps best known for its connections with Daphne du Maurier and other literary figures.

Further up the coast, Charlestown, a Georgian village, is celebrated for its unique harbour - built by Charles Rashleigh to export China Clay. The harbour is now home to 'Square Sail' a fleet of historic sailing vessels. The ships and harbour are now often used for filming ; The Onedin Line, the Disney film - The Three Musketeeers, and many more were filmed here. When visiting Charlestown, the Shipwreck and Heritage Centre is a must !

Already being called "the eighth wonder of the world", the Eden Project is far more than just the world's biggest greenhouse! Almost half-million people visited Eden to see the Big Build and, each year since then, over 2 milion people have enjoyed their visit to Eden.

The biomes take advantage of an old China Clay pit at Bodelva, 50 metres deep and the size of thirty-five football pitches. The main Biome is so big that the Tower of London could fit inside - and yet the structure only weighs about 400 tons - the same weight as the air within it!

Added to this are the exhibition areas, artistic and educational workshop space - and the most magnificent 2,000 seater outdoor amphitheatre, designed to accommodate all manner of local and international talent.
