Just returned from a 5night stay at wild rose (donkeys nest)! Thoroughlly enjoyed our stay apart from the weather which was mainly wet. The pitch became very wet and boggy and we were told by another camper on our lastnight that the wardens can loan planks of wood but wont offer unless asked, this would have helped alot!!! On the whole the site was fab, the pool wasnt very warm but the shop was excellent (tomato and basil sausages to die for) and takeaway was good too but closed at 8 - 8.30pm. My suggestions would be to run a bus service even every other day into appleby so that in bad weather we could have used indoor pool etc as a friend took us and picked us up and it is a real hike to anywhere and the taxis are expensive. Even if it was to take people at 9am and bring them back at say 5pm would have been great. The shower block was very busy first thing on a morning and only had one ordinary shower and two disabled could have done with another couple of showers. Would recommend this site very picturesque, clean and tidy the staff very friendly. Have I mentioned the fab shop everything from gifts, homemade jams, farm meats WOw! to all camping essentials really down to chairs which was good cos we broke ours not badly priced either. ENJOY!! After visiting the Lincoln Farm Park site in Oxfordshire (also Best of British) we were astounded that Wild Rose could gain the same 5 Star rating as it has. We would not recommend this park to parents with young children - it is a large and busy, mostly gravel park, with too many statics on site, (some of which we were convinced were rented or sub-let, due to some of the foul mouthed clients on site when we visited). We were on a Super pitch which was worse equipped than the Lincoln Farm fully serviced pitch - No aerial cable until £5 deposit paid (aerial point was easily 5m away). No waste pipe supplied (drain was a good 1.5 m away). Mains water was same distance away - no equipment supplied. Reception staff were very young and not particularly helpful. Swimming pool was cold. The shower blocks next to our pitch, also used for the large tent field, had 2 showers which meant frequent queues. They were also not as clean as they boasted. We will put this park down to experience and we could not recommend this park as a "5 Star park". A fantastic park! Wild Rose has the most modern and picturesque pitches of any park I have seen. The kids could play without us worrying and the scenery is beautiful. Its a real country retreat that we would reccomend to anyone who is considering visiting. The Wigwams look great fun to take the kids to, one for the future. clean and tidy site lots of room on the pitch (lots of static caravans) good for families. Not the best site if you have dogs as very small exercise area .Good shop that sell everything . lots of hills on the drive there but lovely . Well laid out park. Well stocked shop that included many items that people may need to replace on tents, caravans or motorhomes.. The washing facilities were good and clean and the showers hot. The location would be a good base to explore the Lakes or the Yorkshire Dales. Excellent site with very good facilities especially for families. The toilet and Shower blocks are too a very high standard. The staff were very friendly and very knowledgable about the surrounding areas. There are some very nice resturants and pubs in nearby appleby which are all family friendly, and not far by car. Situated in an excellent spot for touring the lakes. Will certainly be visiting again and would highly recommend this site. 1 of 1 people found this helpful. We stayed at this park and thoroughly enjoyed it. The fully serviced pitches (and including Tv plug point) were ideal for us (having a young child with us). The tolets were clean and tidy, the swimming pool was very busy and the shop was well stocked. Some fantastic pibs and restaurants nearby (by car !!). If you do come to this park as about the Cafe near the waterfall, you must try the home made salsa !! I like it so much I asked for the recipe. This site provides all your needs but well worth investigating the area before you set off !! Was this review helpful? |
