Polmanter Touring Park Polmanter is a 5 star family park situated within walking distance of St Ives and is the perfect location to explore West Cornwall. With stunning views over St Ives Bay to Trevose Head, Polmanter makes the ideal location for touring and family camping.8 Jul 2007 - emlyn (7) from GWYNEDD wrote Overall: Pitch (touring or tent) OR Accommodation (holiday home, chalet or lodge): Overall appearance of the park: Facilities provided by the park: Welcome/Customer Service:
My wife and I spent a week in our caravan with friends in another caravan on the super pitches at the end of May 2007. We enjoyed our stay, despite the weather being mixed, with the Sunday being very wet windy which caused me great concern for our awning! The park facilities are excellent, including; spacious clean shower blocks with plenty of showers with hot water; ample indoor dishwashing facilities; heated outdoor swimming pool; a comfortable and spacious bar and restaurant with nice meals and occassional entertainment; large seperate football field for ball games away from caravans; there is a lovely 20 minute walk along a country lane downhill into lovely St Ives; the park was kept very tidy; there is a lovely sea view from most pitches but beware the site is exposed and can be windy. Overall I can thoroughly recommend Polmanter for anyone visiting Cornwall and St Ives. 2 of 2 people found this helpful. We visited at the end of May. Excellant site with the most delightful wark into St Ives. Although the bus was running the walk was so nice we never took the bus. We had awful rain then it was very hot. Site was always windy. Hardly the fault of the site. We had meals twice in the restaurant. 1st time it was lovely the 2nd time it was poor. Two out of the three meals were very over done. Shame as the food would of lovely apart from that.(Pizza was sqaure where the burnt bits had been cut off ! ) Wine in the bar was dead cheap ! another plus point 1 of 1 people found this helpful. Although a very clean site we would not be returning. Found the owner (Mr Osbourne) not very welcoming after we challenged him about having his own dog on a lead, there was no where to take the dogs in the eve when we wanted to stay on site and use the pub and whenever we had our dogs (controlled) off the lead he always seampt to be there and just to rub our noses in it every time he patrolled the park he would let his 'nasty' dog out and let it roam round our pitch. A lovely location, excellent views, lovely clean facilities but owner not welcoming Was this review helpful? 12 May 2006 - angelasteel (8) wrote Overall: Pitch (touring or tent) OR Accommodation (holiday home, chalet or lodge): Overall appearance of the park: Facilities provided by the park: Welcome/Customer Service:
I have been visiting Polmanter, camping in various tents, for many years now, with family, groups of friends and more recently my husband. We always find the site very clean and well presented. I believe that the toilet block in morvah has been recently rennovated including new showers which is also good news. We enjoy the walk into St Ives on dry evenings, 20mins, down hill, along pretty country lanes. Alternatively the site bar is a nice change, particularly for quiet or wet evenings. Equally pleasant is the Halestown Inn, a few minutes out of the campsite for a quiet few drinks in the evening. Polmanter provides top range facilites from the swimming pool, to an onsite takeaway and helpful information such as weather and tourist information in the site office. I find Polmanter one of the best sites in the country where I return year after year, and would strongly recommend it to anyone planning a camping holiday in Cornwall. 3 of 3 people found this helpful. I was aged 20 and my sister was 19 at the time. Unlike many of our friends, we were looking for a laid back holiday. What we wanted was a well located site, with good road access to all the attractions of Cornwall and nice beaches nearby, so we could relax and soak up the sun without having to go somewhere too far. It turned out that we were really lucky with the weather, so we reaped the benefits of having the gorgeous Carbis Bay not even 10 minutes away! The site had everything that we could have asked for. Our pitch was spacious, with a well maintained hedge that made it feel private without blocking any sunlight or the great views we had down to St. Ives and the sea. All the pitches that we saw were separated by these hedges. There is a nice family outdoor pool and numerous sports facilities on the site, along with a well stocked shop and a helpful and informative service at reception. The takeaway was reasonably priced and the restaurant in a pleasant glass room. Initially, we were worried that the walk down to St Ives would be a bit long as it seemed too far to walk from driving. We decided to do the walk one night and found it to be lovely, especially on a balmy evening, and not too long at all. The washroom facilities were brilliant. They were really new, kept clean and had minimum creepy crawlies. They also had private washrooms within the block with cold showers, which we found eased the sunburn a bit! Overall, I couldn't fault it and would recommend it every time. Unless, that is, you are looking for a holiday that involves rowdiness and heavy drinking late into the night. If you are after that, I would stick to Newquay. It would be a real shame to spoil the laid back and pleasant atmosphere of the park. I would say the park has a lot to offer families, small groups and couples who want a welcoming park and a relaxing break in a great location.I enjoyed it so much that I hope to be going back this summer with friends. Can't wait! 4 of 4 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful? |
